Penny
Cameron (Aurora)
Penny
served 8 terms (24 years) on the Kane County Board and the Kane
County Forest Preserves. She chaired both the Human Services and
Public Services Committees and was Legislative Chairman for the
County Board. She was active in National Association of Counties (NACo)
where she chaired the Workforce Steering Committee and as chairman
was instrumental in the passage of The Workforce Investment Act. She
also was Vice Chairman of NACo’s Task Force and promoted the passage
of the Unfunded Mandate Reform Act of 1995. At NACo she served as
President of the Women Officials in NACo (WON) and represented all
women county commissioners. She received the Outstanding Woman of
the Year Award from WON.
Presently Penny is an active community
volunteer through American Association of University Women Board,
Family Counseling Services Board, Child Welfare, School Dist. 129
Foundation Board, President of Waubonsee Community College
Foundation Board,, Aurora Republican Women Club Board, Kane County
Republican Chairwoman, President of the Fox Valley Republican
Women’s Council, and Precinct Committee person.
Penny graduated from Northern Illinois
University with a degree in Education. She taught school for five
years. She is actively serving on NIU’s College of Education
Foundation Board and was President of NIU’s College of Education
Alumni Board.
Cameron resides
in Aurora with her husband Ken. She has one daughter Beth (Bob)
Pearson and two grandchildren and has one deceased daughter Cathy
Cameron.
