Kristina Koch Stephenson
Kristy
is the Treasurer of the City of Metropolis, having been appointed in
2004, and elected in 2005 and 2009.
Prior to her current position, she served as counsel for the
Illinois Development Finance Authority from 1998 – 2003, and as an
assistant attorney general from 1997 – 1998.
Furthermore, she was appointed to the newly created
Massac-Metropolis Port Authority.
Kristy graduated from Eastern Illinois University with bachelor’s
degrees in political science and history. She received her law degree
from Southern Illinois University.
Her love of politics and government started at EIU by serving as
Speaker of the Student Senate and vice president of the student body.
During this time she also worked on her first statewide campaign,
spearheading the efforts of Students for Jim Edgar.
More recently she has worked on several state and local
campaigns, including working as regional field coordinator for Senator
Kirk Dillard. Kristy has
also served as a precinct committeewoman in Massac County.
Kristy and her husband Barry live in Metropolis with their two
sons, John Warren (5) and Jack Miller (3).
While not busy as a full-time mom, she is active in Beta Sigma
Phi sorority (serving two years as chapter president), the United Way
and the American Cancer Society.
The Stephensons are also members of the First United Methodist
Church in Metropolis.
